Durban Skin Doctor Tips for Loving Your Skin :
We are fortunate our patients come from all walks of life and that has lead us to understanding different skin tones and how they behave.
Wherever your skin is at right now, these tips will help you start to love every inch of it.
- Eat to feed your skin. Eating right helps your hair and skin. While some foods promote inflammation in the body, others are anti-inflammatory. Knowing which foods to eat can help you give your skin the essential nutrients it needs. Look for foods with a low glycaemic index, as well as those that are high in antioxidants, such as almonds, avocado, artichokes, berries, carrots, green tea, green leafy vegetables, oysters, olive oil, healthy fats, salmon and sweet potato.
- Look for products high in nutrients. Vitamin A helps to alleviate the misery caused by acne, Pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. Applied topically or taken orally, this vitamin has an important role in treating your acne. Vitamin A and C are together are good for hyper-pigmentation. Other ingredients beneficial for skin brightening are Adapalene, Azelaic Acid, Arbutin, Kojic Acid, Niacinamide, Liquorice extract and Mulberry extract.
- Get a diagnosis before using any medication. Stay away from creams that promise a ‘fairer skin’ if you do not know that they contain. Avoid lightening products sold by street vendors, online agents and other sales people, especially if they are not properly labelled.
- Embrace your spots. If you have freckles, focus on sun protection rather than bleaching products. Camouflage with make up if you have to. Aggressive treatments can lead to permanent scarring.
When in doubt, it is always best to speak to your dermatologist. If you’d like to schedule an appointment with the Durban Skin Doctor, please contact us today to set up a time and date.
